According him, the decision to run for an independent
candidacy has nothing to do with political party affiliation or opposition to
our much love and cherish coalitions Government. “We want an independent voice
representing us at the National parliament, Our development agenda is beyond
party politics, governments comes and go but the people remain and the people
of ILLIASSA constituency has decided ousainou Bobb is our parliament
representative, he told Daily Observer Regional Corresponded in an exclusive
interview on Tuesday.
“We are faced yet again with another important chapter in our
country’s history where for the first time Parliament Election are going to be
held in what is presume, the most democratic free and fair elections that
totally reflects the will of the people. We use this opportunity to extend our
warmest congratulatory to the people of ILLIASSA CONSTITUENCY for their
unanimous decision in the December presidential elections which gave birth to
the new Gambia that many had anticipated for years”
Mr Bobb, assured that, if he is voting as the National
Assembly Member for Illiasa Constituency will do his best for the development of
the Area, “Today we are faced with another important decision to elect a strong,
effective and efficient parliament representative task with the crucial role of gauging,
collating and presenting the views and needs of our people. Articulating our
expectations and aspirations in determining our constituency’s development
agenda whilst effectively executing the overall functions of a parliament member which includes
but not limited to; a) make new laws, change existing laws and repeal laws
which are no longer needed; b) represent and articulate the views and wishes of
the citizens in decision making processes and c) oversee the activities of the
executive so that the government is accountable to the people.
Mr Bobb, lamented
that, The importance of a clean and professionally effective government is
essential for any society to prosper, but even such a government – left by it –
cannot give the people all they want. People themselves led by their parliament
member and other elites in their society must take their share in revitalizing
their lives. This has been a mere fantasy for the people of lLLIASSA
CONSTITUENCY as the leadership entrusted with our votes to represent our voices
at the National Parliament woefully failed in all capacity.
“From today, we usher in a new era of leadership conscious of
its responsibilities and mandate to serve and upheld the wish of the people. We
are the architect of our own destiny and gone are the days when our voices and
aspirations went by unheeded. Today we take delight in presenting our own Ousainou Bobb to run on our behalves in
the upcoming parliament Elections. Mr. Bobb has been a very active member of
our society and has on numerous occasions shown his dedication and commitment
in matters of significant importations towards our communities development more
so the youths in particular. He has actively participated in the formation of
many youth and women groups, providing them with development projects and
technical assistance”
Mr. Bobb years with the Medical Research Council as a field
worker under the FHDSS Demographic Surveillance System has earned him and
in-depth understanding of the people of ILLIASSA CONSTITUENCY, their economic,
health and social activities, thus making him an ideal candidate to represent
their voices as he lived and work among them for five years.
Our Mission:
To provide the people of ILLIASSA CONSTITUENCY a Parliament
member who will be active both nationally and internationally while remaining
engaged practically in the constituency, in other words; a pragmatic and
effective member of the parliament.
Provide a reform agenda and liberator for our constituency
beyond “Headline politics”. As a parliament member Mr. Bobb will take politics back
to the basics. The basic of politics is to improve the lives of the people by
empowering them. Therefore everything Mr. Bobb will do in politics will be
directly or indirectly linked to empowering the people of ILLIASSA CONSTITUENCY
i.e. statements he makes, policies he will defend as well as projects that will
be initiated. He assured
“It is with this belief my fellow constituents that we
present to you highlights of our program; a program which we pledge to
implement if you elect Ousainou Bobb as your next MP. It covers the following
areas that we believe are essential to the development of our constituency:”
Poverty Eradication:
provide an executable sound economic policy and effective
strategy for poverty reduction and job creation.
Agriculture
Boost the agricultural production in
the constituency by providing small-scale farmers with subsidized fertilizers
or means to practice agro-pastoralism for the next five years. Provide
boreholes and other mechanized agricultural machinery to women groups and
gardens within the constituency.
Provide fishing aids to the community of illiassa and its
surrounding villages. Expand the fishing activities in Ballingho by providing
fishing nets to the fishermen and cold storage.
Education:
improve the education
system and provide adequate support to the various schools within the
constituency. Push for higher education reforms and decentralization as many
of our youths today have to go through a great deal of struggle finding
guardians within the greater Banjul area after high school. There are no
tertiary institutions neither skill training centers within the region. A large
number of young people exoduses out of the constituency every year in pursuit
of higher education and skills at the greater Banjul area. This trend has had
significant setback in the development of our communities more so those whose
parents have to depend on them for farming and other households activities.
We will advocate
for the opening of tertiary institutions and most importantly skills centers
within the region. The Charmen Agricultural Training Center will be revived
back into an active agricultural and technical training centre for youths of
the constituency. The University the Gambia Campus in Farafenni and the Baptist
Mission Campus will serve as skills and other related training center/institutions.
Provide a school
bus to students from Kakuta Kunda along the Illiassa rout to Farafenni wishing
to study in Farafenni Senior Secondary School.
The public library
in Farafenni will be refurbished with new books and other learning materials so
as to enable students and the public conducive learning center.
As diverse as we
are branded, we will provide the youths with a cultural and art studio where
the teaching and learning of arts will be promoted.
Improve Basic Health:
Work closely with NGOs
operating within or outside the constituency to intensify public awareness and
accessibility of health protection products and services, such as
insecticide-treated nets and anti-malarial drugs.
Canvass for medical equipment abroad for The AFPRC General
Hospital, community based clinics and private clinics/hospitals with capacity
potentials.
Improve the capacity of the Farafenni Area Council and
provide them with new waste collection vehicles and public waste-bins.
Infrastructure:
work with the Area Council within
Farafenni and its surroundings in filling up our eroded streets and highways.
Work with the central Government in providing the people of
Ballingho, Kubandar, SamaTaba and its satellite villages a tar road linking
them to the Kerewan highway.
Refurbish all the seeds and harvest stores in the villages
within the constituency.
Advocate for electricity and pipe born water in the remaining
areas of Farafenni, Ballingho and all the other villages within the
constituency.
Youths and sports and entrepreneurship
Revive the sporting activities and promote constituency
Newettan Tournaments where all major villages will be represented. Work with
the football committee to create it ever first division team representing the
people of Farafenni and the Illiassa constituency in the national league. Refurbish
the Farafenni mini stadium and youth center. Promote other sporting discipline,
youth educational, health workshops and symposiums. Promote and assist youths
and people in Business through micro-loans and entrepreneurial trainings.
Leadership
Accessibility: A
leader must listen to the people who elected him or her. For that to happen, a
leader must be accessible to the electorate. To enhance accessibility to the
people of Illassa constituency we will; establish a constituency office where
people can get in touch with Mr. Bobb on fixed days in a month.
Organize annual brain storming seminars where representatives
of all groups in the Illiassa Constituency from villagers to professors, youth
or old, men or women will be invited to discuss and propose ways of improving
our constituency. Invite and work with our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora
in giving back to their communities and other development programs.
Give feedbacks to the electorates through village heads
regarding proceeding at the National Assembly.
Note

Ka Jammeh the Current National Assembly member Illiassa Constituency, please
