In the women’s final GAF’s Abie Kujabie/Safie Sawaneh and Police's Fatoumatta Ceesay/Sainabou Tambedou will go head to head as they battle for the right to be crown Gambia beach volleyball champions. If Kujabie/Sawaneh wins, it will be a historic victory as it will mark their third gold medal winning it in 2014 and 2017 editions. Police are out to defend the title they won in 2019.

Former GNOC SG nominates into ANOCA Legislation and Governance Commision

The former Secretary General of Gambia National Olympic Committee Mr Abdoulie Jallow have been nominated as member of Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) as member of Legislation and Governance Commision.

I am happy and honoured to have been appointed by ANOCA to serve in such a prestigious committee with highly experienced personalities.

In working to enhancing Good Governance in the sporting landscape in the continent, The Gambia stands to be the biggest beneficiary tapping from my expertise and the experience gained from my colleagues to identify opportunities that would create structures to promote sports Jallow says.

He continues "Even before this appointment my working relationship with the current board in this short time has been exceptional.

In fact, one of my assignments for them is to work on a Governance framework for the GNOC and it stakeholders. My role in this Commission can only enhance this assignment and others. However, the commission’s work is for all member NOC’s but the GNOC will have me on the ground if needed for guidance and support.

Let me take this opportunity to thank the President and secretary General of ANOCA for the confidence they have in me to serve in this commission. It shows the Gambia is making positive strides in making its ways in sports administration within the continent Mr Jallow stated.

The leadership of UDP need to ask their members to stand down and allow NPP to peacefully celebrate their victory.

Madi Jorbateh an activist, has said that, the United Democratic Party
UDP should go to the courtroom and not on the street. The election results
cannot be overturned on the street. Hence UDP will bear responsibility if
violence erupts in this country!

Lawyer Darboe should understand that he bears command responsibility for
the actions of his supporters in this circumstance, just as every other
supporter also bears individual responsibility if they violate the law.

The leadership of UDP has legal capacity to know better. Therefore Lawyer
Darboe should put it to his supporters to stand down ASAP. They have no
reason whatsoever to be on the street. They must follow due process.

President Adama Barrow and the NPP are the winners of the December 4
elections until the next elections in 2026 or if the Supreme Court annuls
the results. Until then there’s no justification for their current actions
and no one has any power to overturn the verdict of the people.

UDP leadership should be honest to their membership especially the
uninformed youths and not give them any false impressions or expectations.

NPP should be let to celebrate as they wish peacefully and without
violence. All other parties should give them space. This would have been
the case if it were Ousainou Darboe or Halifa Sallah or Essa Faal or any
other candidate who was declared by the IEC Chairman as the duly elected
president.

For the moment the duly elected president is Adama Barrow of NPP. Therefore
let’s give NPP the chance and space to celebrate their victory. Period.

The men and women of conscience in UDP who are honest and brave should
impress on their leadership and membership to stand down! The actions of
their members are undemocratic, uncivil and unnecessarily irresponsible.

All other political leaders, religious and traditional as well as business
and CSO leaders and all men and women of conscience should speak up by
telling truth to Ousainou Darboe and UDP to stand down. Go to court and not
on the street!

UDP) have not said how they will proceed. They have cited allegations of problems at polling stations and other issues and said on Sunday that “all actions are on the table.”

Gambians Give another Mandate to President Barrow

Gambians have given President Adama Barrow another five years mandate following landslide victory on Saturday presidential election.

He  secured his reelection with a comfortable margin over his opposition in a vote that set the bar for a new chapter in the small West African nation’s democracy.

Barrow won about 53% of the vote in Saturday's election, according to results from the Independent Election Commission announced Sunday. He easily beat out his main contender Ousainou Darboe of the United Democratic Party who received about 28% of the vote.

This was the country’s first presidential election in decades that did not include former dictator Yahya Jammeh, who now lives in exile in Equatorial Guinea after losing the 2016 election and refusing to accept defeat. The Chairman of the IEC, Alieu Mommar Njie, announced the results and prayed for peace to prevail in the nation of about 2.4 million people.

“I hereby declare Adama Barrow duly elected to serve as President of the Republic of The Gambia,” he said, after indicating that the National People’s Party (NPP) emerged victorious with 457,519 of the votes cast.

UDP’s Darboe was credited with 238,233 votes, and Mama Kandeh of the Gambia Moral Congress party came in third with 105,902 votes, according to results announced by the IEC.

international observers, domestice, Journalists all described  the presidential election as transparent and fair.

and about five former Presidents from West Africa  all hailed the peaceful atmosphere  of election

Three opposition leaders  Darboe , Kandeh and Essa Mbaye Faal, the following day on Sunday held a press briefing to challenge the credibility of the vote. According to a statement from the parties, they were concerned about an “inordinate delay” in the announcement of results.

Campaigner Banka Manneh told The Associated Press that he would not deny the opposition leaders their rights to protest but he added, “They need to provide the evidence of their claims. The courts are here to settle dispute.”

Thousands of people stormed Westfield Youth Monument, located in the heart of Serrekunda, to celebrate Barrow’s reelection.

Current Issues spoke to some of the National People's Party (NPP), Alagie Ceesay said President Barrow is a man of peace. We have to give him a chance to continue his development projects.

Nearly 860,000 Gambians came to vote on Saturday, a high number that shows a determination for many to exercise their democratic rights as demands for justice in the post-Jammeh era rise.

Barrow emerged victorious in 2016 as the candidate for an opposition coalition that tested the 22-year rule of Jammeh. After initially agreeing to step down, Jammeh resisted, and a six-week crisis saw neighboring West African countries prepare to send in troops to stage a military intervention. Jammeh was forced into exile.
