Gamtel/Gamcel Ends GAF’s dominance,



"AmadouJarju makes immediate mark in turning Gamtel/Gamcel back into a champion’’

Gamtel/Gamcel female volleyball team Saturday registered a momentous win over record league winners Gambia Armed Forces to completely end their unprecedented dominance in volleyball. It was a big match up for the defending champions GAF taking on the telecom giants.
When the decisive moment arrived there were a few seconds when Coach AmadouJarju gave the impression he might actually run all the away from the touchline to join in the victory crowd. Jarju and the technical benchstood outside the court before checking back but he did not have to wait too long before he could be with his players and his first spell assured of a happy ending as they beat the soldiers 3-0.
For Gamtel/Gamcel, it was the moment that confirmed their superiority and they have played a lot better at times this season but there can be no doubt they have been the best team in the country.
Gamtel/Gamcel took an early lead and dominated for the first set with some strong hitting for a win in the first set. Gamtel/Gamcel came stronger in the second set. They showed good structured play and defence, eventually outplayed forthe set.Sainabou Tambedou show her attacking versatility and Anna Marie Bojang with her blocking strength to keep GAF from gaining any real traction in the 3rd set
The telecom ladies came out outstanding in the 3rd set. Tambedou scored the most points couple with solid blocking getting and Gamtel/Gamcel set the tone for the rest of night.The entire crowd all cheered up Gamtel/Gamcel for the fight and chanted for their great win against GAF as they totally removed the crown from them.











Brikama wins first title in Fashion


In what's being hailed as a "miracle" and the "best story in volleyball, Brikama, a small club from West Coast Region has clinched the trophy. Brikama men volleyball team completed one of the greatest-ever sporting achievements Saturday when they won the volleyball cup final for the first time after a 3-2 thriller against Gamtel/Gamcel.
It's the first top-tier title for Brikama since its formation. Having spent most of the previous seasons languishing near the bottom of the league rankings, the club's dramatic rise to the top is breathtaking.The game was physical and emotions ran high as scuffles flared repeatedly on the court. A total of 2 aces were recorded by Brikama star Mario Dampha and eventually became the games top scorer. Gamtel/Gamcelhad promising chances to the end of the first set with setter Muhammed Jallow and attacker MalickJammeh creating trouble to the Brikama’s blockers, but Brikama held on, sealing the deal for Coach Lamin Fatty.
The crowd at the independence stadium volleyball hall, chanted "BrikamaBrikama," as the fifth set drew near.  It is an incredible tale on so many levels, not least the fact that Brikama were not tipped for this instance success.  After winning the cup, coach Lamin Fatty said: “I’m so proud. I’m happy for my players, for the coaching staffs, for the management at Brikama, all our fans and the Brikama community. It’s an amazing feeling and I’m so happy for everyone.
Brikama finally crash into Gambia volleyball glass ceiling and now facilitate for higher ambitions as they take the trophy and record their name in the volleyball hall of fame.

A nursing mother was stroke to dead by lighting




One Penda Bah a nursing Mother of seven months baby from Pallol village, in Niani district, Central River Region North was on Monday evening stroke to dead by lighting while coming from the weekly market in Wassu.
According to one Ass Sowe a native of Pallol Fulla, Penda Bah was coming from the weekly Market at Wassu on a horse cart between Gingoreh Mustapha and Pallol when was stroke by lighting. He further lamented that Penda was with four other people on the horse cart. Mr. Sowe stated that the incident happened during a heavy downpour.
He explained that other four people were hospitalized but later released, saying that nothing happened to them. He said late Penda Bah was staying with her mother who is blind and Penda was the only daughter taking care of her. He reiterated that Penda is gone leaving her seven months baby with her blind mother behind.
Mr. Sowe seized the opportunity and appealed for help for the seven months baby and the blind mother, noting that the mitigating measures at the moment is that the Mother is being assisted by the villagers who are not economically strong to take care of the family of the deceased.
He posited that the Monday evening rains was accompanied by heavy thunder and lightning in the area which has caused alarm.
On her part, Ramata Jallow Penda’s mother said the late Penda is 18 years old and married. She explained that Penda’s husband allowed her to stay with her due to her condition. She noted that Penda was the only daughter and Allah’s call has come. She prayed for Penda’s departed soul to rest in peace and the baby she left behindto become a productive citizen.
