Gambia registered one of the highest commitment in addressing gender equality and women empowerment

 


The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Welfare has said the Gambia has registered one of the highest commitments in addressing gender equality and women empowerment.

Minister Fatou Kinneh made the remarks whiles delivering a statement at the ongoing 66 sessions of the United Nations Commission on the status of women in New York.

The theme for this year is “Premised on achieving gender equality and empowerment of women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programs” it aims to draw the attention of governments around the world to mitigate climate-related disasters.

Madam Kinteh said the Government of the Gambia recognized climate change as a complex global phenomenon that requires a common solution. She further stated that the Covid -19 pandemic continues to pose a fundamental threat to countries, species as well as the livelihood of the people

Minister Kinteh also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing policies and programmes to fight climate change citing the ratification of the Paris agreement and the Lima framework of action of climate Change
