12 men and 3 women were on Friday awarded FIFA badges by the chairman of the referee committee and president of Gambia Football Federation at the football house in Bakau.
The ceremony was attended by officials from the football
house, the referee committee members and the awardees. Of which the country's
pride in the football arena Bakary Papa Gassama was number one in the list.
Advising the awardees, the president of the Gambia football
federation who also doubles as the the chairman of the referees committee, challenged
the referees to be very committed when it comes to training and revised as much
as possible to improved themselves during a match report after officiating. He
said, the referees are always the man of the game and whatever a particular
referee decides in a match that is final but this he said should not make them
to be so inferior in the pitch.
"You are not to be feared but respected, your
characters count a lot don't be a lion in a game." Chairman Bajo affirmed.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees is the second best
referee in the Gambia Mawdo Jallow thank FIFA and the federation for their
trust in them once more, saying without which they would not have received
these badges.
Stating that he is talking on behalf of his boss Papa Gassama
who he said is an example for every Gambia and the whole world at large.
"This is very rear in Africa winning best referee for
the third time consecutive, Papa make us very proud and we are ready to push ahead
and follow the his footsteps. Mr president we heard your advised and surely we
will work to expectations."
Jallow went on to thank the sports journalist and commend
them for their relentless effort in desiminating sports information nation
wide.
