Woman Dies After Tree Falls on Car Amid Strong Windstorm in NBR

A woman has died after a large Baobab tree fell on a 22-seatercommercial vehicle commonly called ‘Gele Gele’ with the registration numberBJL 1042D that was parked under the treeat Ndungu Kebbeh in the North Bank Region (NBR) during a strong windstorm on Saturday.

The deceased Fatou Kah who was residing in Daru Rilwan in Central Baddibou, NBR was physically challenge and a mother of a 5-year-old boy. And according to eyewitness, the incident happened during their weekly market locally called ‘Lumoo’ and the vehicle was loaded with passengers.
The governor of NBR who doubles as the chairperson of the Regional Disaster Management Committee Ebrima KS Dampha visited the scene thus he  underscored the need for people and transporters to be more vigilant to avoid standing or parking under big trees in order to mitigate disaster and loss of lives.
The NBR governor extends condolence to the family on behalf of Regional Disaster Management Committee. He commended the Barra Fire and Rescue Services and the community of Ndungu Kebbeh for their support and humanitarian services.

Bala Touray, the Station Officer of Barra Fire and Rescue Services noted that his men with support from the community of Ndungu Kebbeh removed the tree on top of vehicle. He advised drivers to avoid driving during strong winds. He disclosed that one Samba Jeng of Kerr Pateh Kala in Lower Nuimi sustained seAlh. Malick Kebbeh, a representative of the alkalo of Ndungu Kebbeh and chairman of North Bank council of elders extended their condolence to the family of Daru Rilwan. The community leaders lauded the efforts of Barra Fire and Rescue Services, Ndungu Kebbeh Police and the people at the lumoo for their support and cooperation on the evacuation of people from the trapped vehicle.
